Nearly twenty years after the murder of Georgia resident Doris Worrell, a suspect is in custody. On Tuesday morning in Maryville Jon Worrell was arrested on multiple felony charges related to the death of Doris, his former wife.
Back in 2006, she was found shot and killed at the couple's business, a recreation center in Douglas, Georgia known as Jon's Sports Park. For the past nineteen years, the case has stood open. A collaborative effort between the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Nodaway County Sheriff's Office, the Coffee County, Georgia Sheriff's Office and a number of other law enforcement agencies led to Mr. Worrell's arrest.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation lists him as a Maryville resident. Accroding to a press release from the agency, invesitgators have tracked him for years, both internationally and here in the states.
Details of the investigation are still coming to light. Worrell is being held in Missouri until he can be extradited to Georgia for trial.
