The Tornado which tore through St Louis ealrier this month, claiming lives and displacing thousands of residents, has had impacts on insured homeowners and renters. According to estimates compiled by the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance, in some impacted neighborhoods nearly 90% of renters and over 60% of homeowners were uninsured. The Department's Director Angela Nelson notes these numbers are estimates. But, she says the information is important as the state looks to understand the scale and cost of the disaster and assist impacted communities.
Other state agencies have been assisting those impacted as well. The Pharmacy Board sent out an emergency waiver last week to help displaced residents access prescription refills, or get new prescriptions if their medications were lost in the damage.
