This week is National Travel and Tourism Week

Maryville is joining communities across the country in recognizing National Travel and Tourism Week this week, with a spotlight on the local economic impact of visitors.

According to the Missouri Division of Tourism, Nodaway County generated nearly $40 million in tourism-related tax revenue in the past year, supporting 955 jobs in hospitality, dining, retail, and entertainment. Statewide, Missouri welcomed more than 42 million visitors, creating over $20 billion in economic activity.

In Maryville, tourism efforts are led by Visit Maryville, a department of the City of Maryville funded by a 5% transient guest tax on short-term lodging. Since being certified in 2022 by the Missouri Division of Tourism as Nodaway County’s official destination marketing organization, Visit Maryville has expanded efforts to promote the area, attract overnight stays, and bring in larger events like sports tournaments and conferences.

Tourism Director DeAnn Davison says the success of tourism is a team effort. She encourages local businesses and event organizers to get involved through Visit Maryville’s tourism grant program and by listing their attractions and events on VisitMaryville.org.
