State agencies are urging residents to be prepared for potential flooding

Following a brief period of calm weather over the last few days, another storm system is set to move into the region this weekend, bringing rain through the Memorial Day holiday. State agencies are encouraging residents to be prepared for potential flooding on roadways and along riverbeds.

Storms last weekend brought flood warnings to a large swath of our listening region and the National Weather Service is still monitoring high water on the Grand River outside Chillicothe. The return of wet weather could bring more flooding, depending on accumulations.

The Missouri State University Extension publishes advice for those in high risk flood areas, and encourages residents of low-lying areas and river corridors to have a plan in place should storms become severe. Advice ranges from securing valuables and safeguarding a home to making an evacuation plan should it become necessary. Find out more at extension.missouri.edu.
