A dog bite incident in Chillicothe on Friday afternoon left a citizen and a police officer injured. The attack occurred around 4:38 PM in the 800 block of Sunset Drive.
Police were responding to a report of a dog bite when the animal charged at them from a garage. The dog displayed aggressive behavior and bit one of the officers, causing minor injuries. The officer discharged his weapon defensively, but the dog was not struck.
After the gunshot, the dog ran off. The owner, who did not come outside until after the shot was fired, was then able to restrain the animal. The dog was taken to the Livingston County Animal Shelter for mandatory quarantine.
Both the injured officer and the citizen bitten earlier are receiving medical treatment. The incident is now under administrative review by the Chillicothe Police Department.
