Accident left woman with serious injuries in Andrew County

A 40 year old woman suffered serious injuries in an accident Friday afternoon. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened about 4PM on Northbound US 169 one and a half miles north of St. Joseph. The Patrol reports the woman, driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla, was stopped in the northbound lane of the highway waiting to turn west. A 27 year old male driver in a 1995 Dodge Dakota was traveling north. That driver was distracted by a hand held device and failed to see the stopped Toyota. He began to brake but struck the rear of the woman's car with its front right fender. After impact, both cars travelled off the east side of the roadway and came to rest in the ditch. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The woman was taken by Andrew County EMS to Mosaic Life Care.
