The deadline for federal REAL ID is approaching

The federal REAL ID enforcement deadline is less than two weeks away, Missouri residents have until May 7 to ensure their driver license or state ID is compliant.

A REAL ID-compliant card has a star in the upper right corner. If it says “NOT FOR REAL ID PURPOSES,” it won’t be accepted for boarding domestic flights or entering federal facilities.

Getting a REAL ID takes about 7 to 10 days by mail, and the temporary paper license won’t work for air travel.

While not required under Missouri law, a REAL ID will soon be necessary for certain federal activities. A passport is still accepted if you choose not to get one.

To apply, visit a Missouri license office with documents proving your identity, Social Security number, Missouri residency, and any name changes. Fees are the same as a standard license.
