Despite cutbacks to programs which fund food pantries in the region....demand for assistance at those pantries remains high. That's according to Second Harvest Community Food Bank Chief Executive Officer, Chad Hidgon.
"We're trying to make sure that message stays relevant for law makers so that they understand that these programs are being evaluated and they're looking at investments through SNAP, traditional USDA approved programs and we are operating and we're really trying to highlight the voice of the families that are struggling right now." says Higdon.
Second Harvest Community Food Bank is based in St. Joseph and assists food pantries in an eighteen county area of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. Anyone wishing to donate food or money to Second Harvest is encouraged to visit their website at shcfb.org.
