CLARINDA, Iowa - A Northwest Missouri State University student was killed in a crash early Sunday morning in Iowa.

Authorities say 19-year-old Jase Wilmes was driving east on 210th Street in Page County around 2:40 a.m. when his pickup lost control over a hill, veered off the road, and crashed into a wooded area.

The truck struck multiple trees before overturning and catching fire. Wilmes was pronounced dead at the scene. Wilmes was a first-year agricultural business major at Northwest.

The university is offering counseling resources for students, faculty, and staff in mourning. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash.
