JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri officials are urging residents to prepare for severe weather as the state marks Severe Weather Preparedness Week all next week.

Last November, multiple rounds of storms and rapid flooding led to seven fatalities, highlighting the need for year-round awareness. Each of next week will focus on a different safety topic.

Monday will focus on receiving weather information, like tuning into KXCV during severe weather. Tuesday will highlight lightning safety, Wednesday will highlight tornado safety with a statewide tornado drill at 11 a.m.

Thursday will highlight hail and wind safety. And Friday will highlight safety during floods. Officials emphasize having an emergency plan, multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and knowing safe shelter locations.
