MORRILL, Kan. - Authorities are investigating a house fire in Kansas. The Brown County Sheriff's Office says it happened just after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday off of 300th Street, north of Morrill.

Officials say the blaze prompted swift action from neighbors Jesse and Logan Ploeger and Rory Clements, who rescued residents Henry and Carolyn Allen.

The Allens were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Sabetha Hospital. Tragically, their dog, who alerted them to the fire, did not survive.

Despite quick response from emergency services in frigid temperatures, the house is now a total loss. The family has lost their home, possessions, and a vehicle.

Donations can be made at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office or Sabetha Hospital to aid in their recovery.
