KXCV/KRNW Radio lost a true pioneer in the radio industry when former station manager
Sharon Bonnett died early Sunday morning. Bonnett began her long tenure at KXCV in 1972
and served the station in several capacities including producer, program director and was
named station manager in 1985. She remained in that position until her retirement in 2006. As
station manager, Bonnett oversaw the construction of KRNW in Chilllicothe, expanding KXCV’s
reach further into northern Missouri and southern Iowa. She was also instrumental in bringing
the Audio Reader Service for the visually impaired to northwest Missouri. Bonnett received
multiple Missouri Broadcasters Association awards and two National Corporation for Public
Broadcasting awards.
Bonnett was passionate in her support of KXCV’s mission to train student broadcasters and
played a major role in the success of the hundreds of students who came through the doors of
KXCV and continued to mentor those students throughout their career.
A celebration of Bonnett’s life is planned for one o’clock Saturday afternoon at the J.W. Jones
Student Union Ballroom on the Northwest Missouri State University campus. There will be no
visitation.
The family suggests memorials in her name be directed to the New Nodaway Humane Society or KXCV/KRNW.
