ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - As colder weather settles in, the University of Missouri Extension office is encouraging farmers to grow cover crops over the winter. Small grained crops include winter wheat, spring oats, and cereal rye.

Wayne Flanary, field specialist in agronomy for the extension office, says that fall planted cover crops can provide a variety of benefits that can be beneficial for farmers in the spring.
