New voting machines to be used during primary election

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Voters who struggle with traditional voting methods can rest easy.

On August 2, Nodaway County voters will have the option to use new and improved ADA-compliant equipment that was purchased with American Rescue Plan funds.

The new system will include a brand new touchscreen, control pad and headphones, and will allow users to adjust text size, or even have the ballot read out loud.

Nodaway County Clerk Melinda Patton says the improvement will make the voting process smoother for people who didn't feel they could vote independently before.

And while the machine is required for federal elections, it is not required for local elections occurring in April, though Patton hopes to have the systems available then too.
