MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a scam alert after an incident in Nodaway County.
In the incident, a caller told a restaurant owner that they had complaints filed against them that would need to be investigated.
They told the owner that he had to pay a fee in order for the health inspector to come out and investigate. The caller asked for credit card information to collect the fee, which the owner declined.
Officials remind people that health inspectors will do follow-ups on complaints in-person and will never ask for money or credit card information.
