BOONE, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has released data on chronic wasting disease in deer during the 2021-22 hunting season.

The DNR says that out of nearly 5,000 deer tested, there were 36 confirmed positives of CWD. Out of these 36 positives, all but three came from existing deer management zones.

Freemont County, in the KXCV/KRNW listening area, had their first confirmed case of the disease, meaning Iowa now has 12 counties where CWD has been confirmed.

Wildlife Biometrician with the Iowa DNR Tyler Harms says they have recommendations for hunters to help slow the spread.
