Maryville City Council debates tourism committee

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Tourism was the big topic of conversation at Monday night's city council meeting in Maryville.

During new business, city councilmember Dannen Merrill introduced the idea of expanding Maryville's tourism committee from nine to 11 members, with three of those members being residents of Nodaway County outside of Maryville. Merrill said he heard from several residents before introducing the idea.

While Merrill had vocal support from councilmember John McBride during discussion, councilmembers Tye Parsons and Rachel Martin expressed uncertainty saying that there's nothing wrong with the tourism committee as is.

A future ordinance on the idea will be crafted by city staff for a later meeting, possibly next month. Staff will also get input from the current tourism committee on the idea.
