emergency room

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a Stewartsville woman is in serious condition after falling asleep behind the wheel.

The Patrol says Amy Wion, 41, was driving a 2018 Jeep Renegade on MO Highway 6, five miles east of St. Joseph, early Thursday morning.

Authorities say at 6:57 a.m., after Wion fell asleep, the Jeep crossed the center of the road, traveled of the road, struck a highway traffic sign, and hit multiple trees before coming to a rest.

Wion, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph with serious conditions.
