Southwest Iowa students can experience Broadway Advantage camp

Two southwest Iowa natives with Broadway experience will be back in Red Oak in the next week holding a camp for anyone looking to learn more about getting involved in theater. The event begins Friday and runs through the 20th at the Wilson Performing Arts Center in Red Oak. Executive Director of the Wilson Performing Arts Center, Kara Sherman, says this is the fourth year for the event called Broadway Advantage-A Musical Theatre Intensive.

"Kelli James is a Broadway performer and Steven Applegate is a professional musical director that has been all over the world.  Kelli grew up in Taber and Steven in Council Bluffs.  So they've been coming back every summer and sharing their talents and knowledge with students in southwest Iowa and putting together an intensive week of what it's like to be in the business, how to create an audition music, how to develop your skills.  They talk about agents, and unions, and scholarships, and headshots, and resumes."

Participants will also put a show together that is open to the public on July 20th at three o'clock.  Sherman says they are still accepting enrollment in the Broadway Advantage.  More information is available at wilsonartscenter.org.
