Lied Library to host "Working with the Enemy" on August 6th

The Lied Public Library in Clarinda, Iowa will host "Working with the Enemy: German, Italian and Japanese Prisoners of War in Iowa during the Second World War" August 6th at 6 p.m. Library Director Andrew Hoppmann says participants will hear about the work that prisoners of war did in Iowa during World War II.

" We'll have Chad Tim.  He's a professor at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.  And he's going to talk about specifically how prisoners of war during WWII in Iowa were kind of put to work and what kind of jobs they did, how they worked together side by side with Iowans, why they were prisoners of war."

Hoppmann also notes that the presentation will feature local history related to Camp Clarinda, one of the two U.S. internment camps that held Japanese POW's in 1945.

"I'm really excited to have him come and talk because as many may or may not be aware that Clarinda had a prisoner of war camp.  So they'll be a lot of local history tied into that as well."

Working with the Enemy begins at 6 p.m. August 6th at the Lied Public Library in Clarinda. No registration is required.
