Highway patrol says holiday weekend was overall a success

During the fourth of July holiday weekend the Missouri State Highway patrol reports that troopers worked 376 traffic crashes, which included 139 injuries and nine of the 12 fatalites, 160 DWI arrests, and 110 drug arrests over the holiday weekend.

Troopers also recorded 11 boating crashes, which included five injuries and zero fatalities. Troopers made 12 BWI arrests and 28 drug arrests and there were three drownings over the holiday weekend.In Troop H of northwest Missouri, troopers issued 130 citations, 209 warnings and made two misdemeanor drug arrests and two misdemeanor warrent arrests.

Public Information Officer Sergeant Jake Angle says in northwest Missouri, the holiday weekend overall was a very successful travel weekend.

"So we were out there in force.  High visibility - strict enforcement, that's the goal.  Obviously we want everyone to have a safe 4th.  We want to reduce traffic crashes and be out there to assist the public on the roadways.  We had a pretty good, very successful 4th of July holiday."
