New charge reflected on Spire West customer bills

Spire West, formerly Laclede Gas Company, customers will see a surcharge change to their bills May 14th. The Infrastructure System Replacement Surcharge (ISRS) has been part of customer bills since April 2004 and Spokesperson for the Missouri Public Service Commission, Kevin Kelly, says it reflects infrastructure replacement investments made by Spire West.

"It is designed to provide the utility company more timely recovery of a portion of their expenditures that it incurs to replace or extend its existing infrastructure and for those projects that are completed after the company's most recent rate case."

Kelly says its part of plans to replace aging infrastructure on a yearly basis.

"In addition, there are times when pipelines need to be relocated in connection with local, state, federal public improvement and safety requirements, and the insurance reflects recovey of those costs for those types of activities."

The current ISRS for residential customers is 80 cents a month and will be adjusted to $1.79 a month once the change takes place on May 14th. Spire West provides natural gas to customers in Andrew, Buchanan and DeKalb counties in northwest Missouri.
