Stanberry Board talks budget and gym renovation

The Stanberry Board of Education met Tuesday evening. Superintendent Bob Heddinger says the board heard a report on the 2019-20 preliminary budget.

"I presented a preliminary budget that, as it stands right now, is at a $70,000 deficit based on those numbers.  But again, I would stress that this is a preliminary budget and there's a lot of information, a lot of holes in the budget, while we're trying to move through the remainder of the school year and find out what the legislators are going to do.  So I was really conservative with the revenue numbers and a little more inflated with my expenditure numbers just to be on the safe sides of both directions."

Heddinger says the Stanberry board also approved renovation work for the school district's gymnasium floor.

"We're going to sand it all the way down to bear wood and re-stencil and remark and then refinish.  And we went with Cado Hardwoods out of St. Joe for that project."

Heddinger adds the Stanberry Board of Education also approved the hiring of Kali Newcomer as the school's full time elementary school counselor for the 2019-20 academic year.
