Last witness in Catterson trial claims broken tie rod caused the accident

Testimony has concluded in the trial of a Maryville resident charged with felony DWI resulting in the death of another not a passenger.
22-year-old Alex Catterson is charged in connection with the January 7th, 2018 crash into The Palms bar at 422 North Buchanan in Maryville resulting in the death of 19-year-old Morgan McCoy of Liberty, Missouri.

During the final day of testimony in Nodaway County Circuit Court, the jury heard from Missouri Highway Patrol Sergeant Heath Sears with the Missouri Major Crash Investigation Unit and from Certified Accident Reconstruction Specialist, Phil Buckley. Buckley testified the accident was caused by a broken tie rod, forcing Catterson’s pickup to crash into the Palm’s. Sergeant Sears stated the tie rod was broken upon impact with the building.

Closing arguments will be given tomorrow morning beginning at 9 o’clock.
