2nd Ag & Food Literacy Summit to be March 14

In an effort aimed at helping middle school aged students better understand and appreciate the food system, Northwest Missouri State University officials are inviting the public to its second annual agriculture and food literacy summit on Thursday, March 14, at the Conference Center at Mozingo Lake Recreation Park. Director of Partnerships and Placement at Northwest Missouri State University Jill Brown says this is an event to bring people together to learn food literacy.

"Where does our food come from?  What role do we as educators, producers, and consumers play in helping students better understand where their food comes from?  So we held last year's summit, also in March, and kind of kicked off that conversation.   So this is a follow-up to that one, looking at it a little further and bringing in new perspectives as we get ready to launch curriculum then the following year."

Brown adds there are a few things people can take away from attending.

"Sure.  I think the best thing about coming to an event like the ag summit is an opportunity to visit with others about what the misperceptions are in today's industry regarding food and where are the opportunities regarding more education.  I think we all have a lot to learn about the food we eat and where that comes from.  Really this is meant to be an open discussion about what some of those key issues are, there are questions that people have, and get those answers."

Tickets and registration and due by Friday, March 1. For more information contact Jill Brown at 660-562-1251.
