St. Joseph man killed in traffic accident

A St. Joseph man was killed in an accident on US-59 Thursday morning.

A vehicle driven by 25-year-old Jonathan Turner was southbound on US-59 when he attempted to turn east into a private property failing to yield to northbound traffic and was struck by a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Kirk Kloepper.

Both vehicles travelled off the east side of US-59. 50-year-old Lonnie Elmore was a passenger in Turner's vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Turner was transported to Mosaic Life Care and sustained moderate injuries. Kirk Kloepper and Laurie Kloepper were transported by Atchison EMS to Atchison Hospital and sustained minor injuries.

The crash was investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol, the Buchanan County Sheriff's office, and Atchison, Kansas EMS.
