Consolidation of Cameron prisons will save the state $15 million

Missouri Governor Mike Parsons outlined the proposed state budget Wednesday which included the consolidation of two correctional centers in Cameron.
The budget outlined would shut down Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron and transfer prisoners and staff to Western Missouri Correctional Centers also located in Cameron. First District State Representative Allen Andrews, a Republican from Grant City, says the consolidation will open up funds in the correctional budget but is expected to be the only one necessary.

"So they said there was absolutely no plan at all to consolidate other prsions.  This is one way they were able to achieve more accountability with government efficiency by spending less money and using that money to increase pay. There are some other things the department did to increase that pay as well just beyond that."

State budget officials have estimated that the consolidation will save the state up to 15 million dollars to allocate partially toward pay raises for Missouri Corrections staff.
