Witness recants, charges dropped, mystery remains into pet dog's death

Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Rice is asking for information on the death of a Hopkins family's pet.
At approximately 8 am on April 21st, 2018, a family in Hopkins found their 1-year-old husky dead from an apparent hanging. The last time the dog was seen alive was 8 pm April 20th, 2018. Rice says a witness came forward but recanted her statement in court.

"We filed a charge on the case and had accused 2 persons of having involvement. Those accusations were based upon the witness' initial story that she had told law enforcement. That witness recanted the statement and the charges were not able to be pushed forward. We had a hearing and there was insufficient evidence to proceed forward."

Rice is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Nodaway County Sheriff's Department at 660-582-7451.
