The Agricultural Learning Center to begin construction

Northwest Missouri State University and the Northwest Foundation received an anonymous gift last week to match the donations, up to $500,000, that go toward the new Agricultural Learning Center.
Agriculture Instructor at Northwest Rod Barr reported the donation to the Northwest Board of Regents at its meeting Friday. He says the donation is an important step in the development of the Ag Learning Center.

"It's huge deal when we can take an individual donor that's got a match out there of half a million dollars.  Anything that's donated after October 1st through December of 2019 will be matched dollar for dollar for individual gifts and from family corporations.  So anytime you can do that, that's a pretty good investment being able to double that."

Barr adds that, once built, the Agricultural Learning Center will have a benefit to more than just the Ag department.

"We use the farm a lot in our education of our students, but right now, we don't have any academic space at the farm.  It's all production-based.  So that's going to make a huge difference.  In addition, what it will do, it's going to allow us to provide experiences for every student here at Northwest, not just School of Agricultural Sciences students, both other students as well, through interdisciplinary activities with that academic space.  Those profession-based learning opportunities is what sets Northwest apart."

Construction will begin on the Agricultural Learning Center this fall and will proceed as money is raised. To donate, contact the Northwest Foundation.
