Northwest TRIO program given supplemental STEM grant

The United States Department of Education has awarded Northwest Missouri State University TRIO Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science a supplemental STEM Grant to increase access to related course work in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The funding for the grant was approved at $40,000. Director of TRIO programs at Northwest Missouri State University Cassy Tavorn says this grant will help the students and future students through this program.

"...provide opportunities to be able to enhance their services in science, engineering, technology and math for our students.  Some of the schools that we serve, our students do not have access to the different laboratories or the particular curriculums in those particular areas."

Tavorn adds they are excited about the grant.

"Everything that we do, particularly at Northwest and Trio, is intentional.  Everything is student-centered.  Whatever we do, it's always to make sure that it enhances the students' experiences.  So that when they do graduate from high school, they have a general idea of the direction that they are going to go when they are in STEM.  And they get that experience when they are here on campus with us and going through our curriculum."
