Nightime telemedicine program assisting at St. Francis

SSM Health St. Francis Hospital is the latest hospital to use a nightime telemedicine program to assist with patient care.  St. Francis has partnered since September 10th with Eagle Telemedicine, based in Atlanta, Georgia to provide medical assistance to the local hospital.  Vice-President of Patient Services, Debbie Hoffman says the service is used from 7pm to 7am each night.

"The night shift here at the hospital, our nurses will contact the telemedicine provider and the doctor will Skype in through a rogot and will be able to see the patient, talk to the patient, communicate with the nursing staff to be able to meet the patient needs."

Hoffman says response to the program has been positive.

"It has been a wonderful program, been great quality care here at the hospital, able to meet our patients' needs very timel.  We've had no concerns at all.  It's been a great success on our part."

A small team of physicians from Eagle Telemedicine are specifically assigned to St. Francis, which officials say helps build a working partnership between Eagle and the hospital.
