Maryville Council approves budget

The Maryville City Council approved the 2019 fiscal year budget during their meeting Friday afternoon.  Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the new budget is approximately 27 point 7 million dollars.

"Our number for the budget each year varies based on the capital improvements.  You'll see some major capital improvements in our budget, such as the Maryville Public Safety building, some improvements downtown, some equipment internally for staff.  But then it does not include improvements to South Main, but we will be working on that this year to work on a financing plan and likely a budget amendment after the year.  There are some that aren't included in our budget currently, but we know we'll be tackling by the end of the year.  So while we may be at $27 million right now, we could be upwards of 30 or even more depending on grants recieved."

McDanel says projects included in this year's budget includes several capitol improvement projects.

"...look forward to constructing the Maryville Public Safety building.  That's a top priority for us, along with South Main.  We have several grants in right now and looking to hit the go on at least phase 1 in the spring of next year.  We'll be talking to businesses and property owners.  But internally, a lot assistance for employees and employee assistance wellness programs, about a 13% cost increase on insurance, keeping a robust benefits plan to provide basic services to our citizens.  A lot of our budget this year is on maintainance, but we do have small capital improvements."

The City of Maryville 2019 fiscal year budget goes into effect today.
