Maryville City Council approves $3.45 million dollar assistance for Hughes Fieldhouse

The Maryville City Council approved a licensing agreement with Northwest Missouri State University for the Hughes Fieldhouse at last night's meeting.
City Manager Greg McDanel says the agreement solidifies the financial contribution of the city to the fieldhouse.

".....funding agreement for the city of Maryville with Northwest Missouri State University to make a significant $3.45 million dollar financial contribution to the Hughes Fieldhouse on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University.  This transient guest tax was approved by the voters with the promise that we would help support the ongoing construction and operation of the Hughes Fieldhouse.  And this agreement sets things in motion."

McDanel also adds the city will get good use out of the fieldhouse as well.

"The city is looking to utilize the Hughes Fieldhouse when it does not conflict with Northwest sanctioned events.  And so anytime that facility is empty, we'd like to fill it with tourism initiatives, conferences, trade shows and potentially some recreation through Maryville Parks and Rec.  We really want to embrace that as a community facility and uplift our partners at Northwest Missouri State University through providing financial assistance."
