Hughes Fieldhouse unveiled to the public

The Hughes Fieldhouse indoor facility on the Northwest Missouri State University campus was unveiled to the public over the weekend.  A ribbon-cutting was held Friday afternoon on what has been called the single largest public-private partnership in Northwest's 113 year history.  Donors commited nearly 14 million dollars to the project.  The Hughes Family Foundation was a major part of making the facility a reality.  Carl Hughes says he's pleased with the way the whole project came together.

"I think there's a lot of pride here for everybody.  I think that's a big piece of it; a lot of skin in the game with a lot of people.  It's just a good happy moment for the school."H

Northwest President Dr. John Jasinski says the whole region will benefit from the Hughes Fieldhouse.

"The campus will certainly benefit, but I think what stands out for me and I believe for Northwest is that other facilites like this don't really have that multi-purpose and multi-use perspective.  So it's about our campus and everybody that's part of the campus, but it's about our community and the communities that we serve, and that's what makes this place so special."

The project also received major support from the Founding 50, a group of 78 donors contributing 50 thousand dollars or more, the Carl and Cheryl Hughes Family Foundation, the Mel and Valorie Booth Family, the city of Maryville and Nodaway Valley Bank.  The university and students also contributed to the project.
