First Friday Culture Talks share international viewpoints on variety of topics

Area residents and students are invited to attend the First Friday Culture talks on the Northwest Missouri State University campus. The purpose of the event is to promote diversity, an appreciation of other cultures and gain self-awareness. International Student and Scholar Services Coordinator Ashley Hennegler says it's important to hear other viewpoints and new ways of thinking.

"It's really just an opportunity for students from around the world to gather and share on a topic.  Usually we'll pick the topic, but it can be anything.  It can be current events.  If there's nothing really exciting going on in the news, then we'll pick a topic.  So we've done culture shock, we've done tourist attractions, we've done food.  But this coming Friday, we're actually doing a sports theme to kind of go along with the sports display that's uptown at the museum."

The First Friday Culture Talks are the first Friday of every month at 3 p.m. at the B.D. Owens Library lounge room 108.
