Economic Summit Luncheon to be held Nov. 15

The Saint Joseph Chamber of Commerce will host two of Missouri top officials in the area of education and economic development to discuss the crucial issue of workforce development at the Economic Summit Luncheon. The event will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, November 15, at the Fulkerson Center at Missouri Western. Director of Communications and Marketing with the St. Joseph Chamber, Kristi Bailey says they like to bring in people of significance.

"Every year the Chamber of Commerce has an Economic Summit Luncheon and we bring in different speakers to talk about topics that are important, usually not only to the St. Joseph economy, but also the state or even the nation in general.  We really like to bring in speakers of significance that have a broad education, a good background, to really bring some high-level topics to the St. Joseph community."

Bailey adds Commissioner of Higher Education Zora Mulligan and Director of Missouri Department of Economic Development Rob Dixion will discuss their work in addressing changes to the states economic development program.

"As a country as a whole and of course Missouri and St. Joseph, we are facing a problem where we do not have the skilled workforce to come in and fill the jobs that baby boomers are retiring from.  And so taht could be a big problem in the near future for a lot of our companies.  So Miss Mulligan and Mr. Dixon are wroking together at the state level for education and business - those 2 worlds to work together."
