Clarinda City Council approves pay request & increased rates for water & sewage

The Clarinda City Council met in regular session last week. Items on the agenda included approving pay requests for the Clarinda Facade project, and multiple ordinances. City Manager Gary McClarnon says the council approved a pay request for the Clarinda Facade project.

"We do have a couple buildings that are not gonna meet the November 30th deadline.  But this was pay request #7 for $62,551.37, and the project is approximately 70% done now, so they are making some pretty good strides.  They do have about 30 days left to have substantial completion.  I think they are right on schedule to do that, and that was approved unanimously by the city council."

McClarnon also adds the council voted on increasing the water and sewer rates.

"So we are going ahead and increasing the water and sewer rates.  Both of these first readings did pass.  Just to kind of let people know, the first year increase will be about 20% and then the following two years would be right at 10% for each year.  So we're looking at a pretty significant increase over the next 3 years.  But once again, it's just something we're just going to have to do because building the new sewer plant is a big part of it."

The council also heard issues on a proposed amendment to the Revitalization Plan for the Clarinda City Wide Urban Revitalization Area.
