Career Closet is asking for donations of professional wear

Northwest Missouri State University officials are inviting community members to donate gently worn professional attire. It is accepting suit jackets, pants, shirts and dresses as well as accessories such as professional shoes, scarves, jewelry and neck ties. An early childhood instructor in Northwest Missouri State University's School of Education Meghan Sheil says this all started last year during lunch.

"It kind of started with a meatball.  Last year one of my practicum students was sitteing beside a child eating.  A meatball flew off the child's plate and hit her top.  She had a nice new outfit on, you know, looking the part of the teacher and she was devastated.  And I started talking about, you know, clothes and how expensive it is to look the part of the teacher and interviewing with student teaching."

Sheil adds they are looking for more professional wear.

"We're looking for clothes that are of course clean.  It'd be helpful if they were on hangars.  And we're looking for more professional wear, like for men, too.  We need slacks, dress shirts, ties, dresses and skirts.  Things for different professions."

All donations should be brought to Career Services, located in room 130 of the Administration Building, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. Clothing should be on a hanger and ready to wear. For more information about Career Closet contact Career Services on the Northwest campus.
