Board of Regents approves Hughes Fieldhouse licensing agreement with city of Maryville

The Northwest Missouri State University Board of Regents approved a licensing agreement with the city of Maryville for the Hughes Fieldhouse at its meeting this morning.
Northwest Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Matt Baker says the agreement will allow for both the university and the city to benefit from the new facility.

"The agreement outlines usage and it outlines what it will take to make it happen; how we schedule it, the frequency of scheduling, and who's involved.  So it really has been a fun project to work on.  Both to see the fieldhouse come out of the ground, but also with the city and finding ways to be innovative to benefit the entire communicty of Maryville, but also Northwest as well."

Baker also adds that the agreement has been a well thought-out process.

"So the agreement is necessary from the city's perspective.  It has to be an ordinance in order for them to allocated the money to Northwest for the operation of the fieldhouse.  But is also is important for the city to know what's in it for them.   So we've gone through a process over the last 4-5 months and evaluated what does the city need, what does the city want, what's the best way to leverage such a great facility for both the university's benefit, the community's benefit, and the benefit from a tourism perspective."

A dedication and ribbon cutting for the new Hughes Fieldhouse is scheduled for 4 pm today and the grand opening is set for tomorrow from 11 am to 1 pm as part of the homecoming activities prior to the Northwest Football game against Nebraska Kearney.
