Americana concert presented by St. Joseph Community Chorus & the Chamber Choir

The St. Joseph Community Chorus and the Chamber Choir will present Ye Shall Have a Song, a concert of American music on Sunday at 3 pm. This concert will feature work by a variety of artists with different backgrounds. Artistic Director for the St. Joseph Community Chorus Jennifer Stammers says this concert will feature patriotic music.

"We're giving a concert this coming Sunday.  It's called "Music of the Great American Composers."  So we have music by Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Randall Thompson, Charles Ives and some contemporary composers as well like Mark Hayes, Eric Whitacre, Randall Stroope.  Basically, it's kind of got a very Americana flavor to it.  Some of it is patriotic in nature or at least having to do with some of the wars we're in.  Basically, it's uniquely American in the way it sounds."

Stammers also adds the concert will feature poems by Robert Frost.

"One of the big works that we're featuring is called Frostiana and it's the poetry of Robert Frost set to music by American composer Randall Thompson.  And it's interesting because this music was actually approved by Robert Frost in celebration of something like the 100th, 150th, or 200th anniversary of the town in which he grew up, and it was kind of to commemorate this occasion."

Ye Shall Have a Song will be perfomed on Sunday at 3 pm at the Fulkerson Center on the Missouri Western campus. Tickets are available at the door or online at stjoechorus.org .
