Maryville Public Safety Fire Units responded to a call Friday afternoon around 3:15. Maryville Public Safety Director Keith Wood says the fire was at a residence located at 123 South Mulberry.
"When the officers initially arrived, they had heavy flame and smoke showing on the southeast corner of the residence. Fire units were able to respond pretty quick and knocked the fire down. We were not able to locate the occupant for quite some time. So we do know that he was not at home which was a good thing. From this point, we are sorry for his loss, but we're glad that he's ok."
Wood says a preliminary investigation indicates the cause of the blaze may have been from a window air-conditioning unit.
