St. Joseph holding open house at Fire Station 11

The city of St. Joseph has invited the public to an open house at one of its new fire houses over the next three days.
The newly completed fire station 11 is the subject of the open house this evening through friday. Public Information Officer with the City of St. Joseph Mary Robertson says the update to the station was much needed.

"St. Joseph has nine stations that house 11 companies for the fire department, and three of our remaining stations are still over 100-years-old," Robertson said, "so this is a long time coming. It's a great opportunity to modernize the stations for our fire crews."

Robertson adds the open house will serve to allow the public to see what they helped build for the fire department

"Funding for the contruction of Fire Station 11 and Fire Station 9, which should be open here in the next couple weeks also, was funded through our community's capital improvement program's half-cent sales tax. That's where the funding came from, so it's paid for by the people and we certainly want the residents to be able to come in and see what their tax dollars are providing for the fire department."

The open house takes place from 6pm to 8 pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Station 11 is located at 2316 South 22nd Street just south of Highway 36.

During the open house, crews will conduct tours and answer questions about the new facilities, and refreshments will be provided.
