More rain needed to alleviate drought

Recent rain fall in northern Missouri has helped with the recent drought for northwest Missouri. Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Sarah Atkins, says more rain is coming.

"Across that area, we got probably around 2 inches or so - give or take a couple of tenths.  We do have observers in that area who reported 2.2 inches in Maryville and in Chillicothe anywhere between 1.8 to 2.27.  Looks like a solid 2 inches for everyone up in that area.  And we should be dry today, but there are going to be a couple of rounds of precipitation starting tomorrow and through the holiday weekend."

Atkins adds with recent drought conditions, more rain is needed.

"See, for Chillicothe we've gotten around 5.2 inches of rain this month, and Maryville has had about 6.57 this month so far.  It's a bit of a range, but all the rain has certainly helped.  Yesterday has definitely helped.  But we haven't done quite enough to alleviate the drought conditions."
