Emergency loan program for affected ag producers

Agricultural producers in Missouri who suffered losses and damages due to recent drought on two separate occasions may be eligible for U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency emergency loans. The loans are made available under the authority of the Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue. Nodaway County of FSA and Farm Loan Manager Matt Strueby says the drought is affecting farms in many ways.

"People in the area or comunity would be aware of the drought that we're experiencing here more or less in northern part of Missouri, but it has extended further south into the state as well, dramatically or drastically affecting livestock producers, crop producers, and other producers in the area from the shortage of rainfall."

Strueby adds there is an emergency loan program.

"Emergency Loan Program is designed to assist with those individuals that have been affected by natural disasters - of course drought falling into that.  We have been - several counties have been- declared disasters at this point, which opens up the eligibility for emergency loan program.  With that, the loan program is available to offset production losses or in this case, most likely not any physical losses which would be building destruction or anything there.  Primarily the production aspect of it."
