Commemorating those affected by overdose

The City of St. Joseph Health Department is hosting an event to honor International Overdose Awareness Day later this week.

The event is set for Friday and will feature a proclamation from St. Joseph Mayor Bill McMurray. Public information officer with the St. Joseph Health Department, Stephanie Malita, says the event is a chance for the public to gain awareness.

"It's an opportunity for people to share their story of a family member that has passed away from overdose.  Or possibly we're hoping to get some overdose survivors that come as well.  It'll just be a way to commemorate the lives of those that have been affected."

The event will take place Friday at 6 p-m at Civic Center Park in St. Joseph.
