Second Harvest Food Bank conducts annual food drive

Second Harvest Food Bank in St. Joseph and your mail carriers are teaming together to Stamp Out Hunger.

The annual food drive will take place next Saturday, May 12. Second Harvest Food Bank Chief Development Officer Michelle Fagerstone says the annual food drive is a big deal nationwide.

Over 155 million pounds of food has been collected in the last two years during the drive, with last year's mark surpassing 80 million pounds. Northwestern Missouri contributed 62,000 pounds last year, with 5,600 coming from Maryville alone.

Fagerstone says Second Harvest assists the National Association of Letter Carriers by finding sponsors and providers for the bags used to collect food.

The food that is collected in any area is then dispersed to food banks within that area. To learn more about Stamp Out Hunger, contact Second Harvest at 816.364.3663.
