The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is kicking off its 2018 Click It or Ticket season with a one-day event called "Border to Border." The event, which takes place today, aims to increase public awareness about seat belts and their protection, as well as law inforcement participation in the community.
Captain John Hotz says this year's event is focused on nighttime driving. According to the NHTSA, 48% of crash deaths in 2016 were unrestrained. From 6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m. that number increases to 56%. In Missouri, 62% of drivers and passengers killed were not wearing a seat belt.
