Savannah welcomes Special Olympians this weekend

This weekend, over 100 Special Olympians will come to Savannah, Mo. for the Special Olympics Missouri North Area Track and Field meet. Special Olympics Missouri Program Director Alyssa Cress says the competitors will participate in a wide variety of events.

The meet has been held at Savannah Middle School numerous times in the past. Cress says the Savannah community is always supportive. The meet this weekend determines who qualifies for the State Track and Field Meet in Columbia in June. Cress says in addition to audience members to cheer on the competitors, the event is also looking for volunteers.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the meet, in any number of jobs, should contact Cress at 816-233-6232, or by emailing cress@somo.org. She says interested volunteers should get in contact with her by 3 p.m. today.

The Special Olympics Missouri North Area Track and Field meet takes place at Savannah Middle School this Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
