Northwest junior wins national honor society award

A Northwest Missouri State University junior took a national award at the Sigma Tau Delta Convention in March.

Halston Belcastro, a junior English education major from Omaha, Neb., is a member of the English honor society at Northwest which afforded her an opportunity to attend the convention with a piece of her writing.

Belcastro submitted a fiction piece in the category of "other worldliness" called "Something about a Monster." The story is about a little girl who is scared to go to bed, but unlike the common childhood fear of a monster under the bed, has a monster to protect her.

Belcastro's story took second in fiction writing at the competition, held Mar. 24 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The convention attracted around 220 Sigma Tau Delta chapters from around the world. Belcastro was one of five Northwest students who attended.
