Nebraska Public Power District warns of scam phone calls

The Nebraska Public Power District is warning customers all over Nebraska about potential scammers calling for immediate payments.

NPPD Supervisor for Corporate Media and Media Services Mark Becker says the caller will sound official, but will use tactics to gain money that NPPD would never use.

Becker says NPPD, as part of company policy, does not call to ask customers for credit card numbers or demand payment with pre-paid cards. Anyone who receives such a call should ask where the caller is calling from, write down the call-back number and contact either law enforcement or their local or rural power district to ensure their account is up-to-date.
